An initial order of 15 of these diesel-electric shunters – 641 001 to 641 015 – was placed with Ganz Mavag in 1960. These were to be based on the MÁV class M44. Follow-up orders of 641 101 to 641 145 and 641 201 to 641 220 followed in 1970/71, followed by 61 301 to 641 335 between 1984 and 1988.
Since 1991
With the break-up of Yugoslavia, the entire class passed to Serbia. Ten machines (641 111 / 112 / 122 / 129 / 130 / 131 / 203 / 204 / 211 / 212) are dumped in a very derelict state at Fushë Kosovë in Kosovo (see here).
