Work in progress…
In 1973/74, the Swiss firm of Macosa supplied 25 diesel-electric locomotives to JŽ. These were licence-built General Motors machines of type G22U and were christened class 644, being numbered 644 001 to 644 025.

Since 1991
All 25 locos of class 644 passed into the fleet of SŽ, the Slovenian Railways, at the break-up of Yugoslavia. From 2007, some machines have been sold to other railways in this part of the world – 644 001 / 002 / 006 / 009 / 010 / 017 to ŽS in Serbia and 644 003 / 007 / 013 / 015 to MonteCargo in Montenegro. 644 003 now in Montenegro now carries the number 644 024; a little confusing as the “real” 644 024 is still at work in Slovenia!
