Welcome to my website – by way of introduction, I thought I’d cover some brief autobiographical stuff along with a bit of a Q&A about the site here. If you do have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Jonathan Wilcox
1. Will this website cost me anything?
Not if I can help it. I’m currently trialling a voluntary donation system in order to try and avoid making this a subscription website – please see here for more.
2. I’ve heard of you! You contribute a lot to internet “gen” groups – does this mean that we have to pay to read this info now?
Absolutely not! I believe that the sharing of information between enthusiasts is one of the cornerstones of our community, and I will continue to share the same information at the same frequency to “gen” groups that I already do, in order for the maximum number of people to benefit from it. This website is not in competition with them – most of its content would not fit that format. My intention is to plug a gap in the online information presence regarding European railways, certainly not to dilute it and then potentially put some of it behind a paywall.
3. I’ve heard of you! Will this just be a website about German diesel-hydraulics?
No – it is true that my own favourite locomotives are the V160 family of diesel-hydraulics of the former Deutsche Bundesbahn, and I do spend the majority of my time overseas travelling behind them. However, this website will be devoted to the entire continent – with the exception of mainland Britain which is already well-covered online – and I aim to cater for all tastes, definitely not just my own!
4. I haven’t heard of you! Who are you?
I’m a railwayman by trade, with 25 years’ experience of travelling around Europe by train as an enthusiast. As I’ve said, I’m often to be found riding behind diesel-hydraulic locos, but I enjoy many aspects of the railway in a variety of countries. With this website, I’m keen to share my passion with you.
5. What should I do if the website isn’t covering the subjects I want to read about?
Quite simply, drop me a line! The website is growing and I will be the first to admit that it has grand ambitions – one aspect of it is the haulage calendar that will cover forthcoming haulage opportunities on railtours and heritage railways; I will try and cover the whole continent, there is not even currently an equivalent for just the UK. I am a one-man-band and although I will add interesting and diverse content to the site on a frequent basis, I cannot cover everywhere and everything immediately. If there’s something specific you’d like to see, let me know!
6. Can I contribute too?
Of course, I would be delighted to hear from you!
