The smallest diesels that RENFE had were its class 10100 diesel shunters (later renumbered to class 301).
Although the original plan was for 100 locos, in the end 46 of these 130hp machines were built between 1961 and 1963, in three batches – 10101 to 10113 by Euskalduna, 10114 to 10126 by Macosa, and 10127 to 10146 by MTM (Maquinista Terrestre y Maritima). They gained the nickname “pegasins”, due to their Pegaso engines.
The class are all now out of service, but nearly half survive.
